ABOUT ME

My name is Sonja Christoph but most people call me “Sony”. I was born in Germany but I grew up in the US before moving to Sweden and now Australia.

By day, I’m a Lead and an Artist working in the entertainment industry.

I’ve worked in Film, TV, Commercials, Theme Park Rides, VR and AAA Games for nearly 20 years now. Before I became an artist I worked in Hollywood as an Assistant Director. In 2009 we received an Emmy for contributions to the award winning directing for a drama series ER “And In The End”. It wasn’t until the writer’s strike in 2008 that I re-discovered my love for Art and decided to change my career.

Since then I have worked at Industrial Light & Magic, Rhythm & Hues, the Mill, ILMxLab, Ubisoft, IO Interactive and a few startup game studios.
During my time at ILMxLab I got the chance to work on the Oscar award winning VR experience “Carne Y Arena”, which was directed by Alejandro Inarritu.

In my free time, I like to work on my own personal projects, play videogames and see the world. I’m fascinated by Ancient Egypt, think rodents are about the cutest thing ever and just discovered steamed BBQ pork buns – so good!!!

I also like to give back and help where I can. I do this by teaching online classes at schoolism, I host workshops, mentor young aspiring artist through the Trojan Horse was a Unicorn Talent League and I am a recurring judge for the Rookie Awards.
